Cover Driveway & Pavers: The Mountain View Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cover-compatible driveway and paver systems in Mountain View, with typical installed pricing running $7,000-$18,000 for paver driveways and $3,500-$11,000 for paver patios depending on substrate condition and square footage. Most Cover paver replacements we quote can start within one to two weeks of approval, and we carry common Belgard and Techo-Bloc inventory that cross-matches Cover specs. Mountain View homeowners usually notice the failure first as settling or shifting after winter rains, or as efflorescence whitening that signals moisture trapped beneath the bedding layer.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover’s driveway and paver line spans residential and light-commercial grades, and the part you need depends on the series stamped on your original invoice or the edge restraint profile visible at the perimeter. We see three main Cover series in Mountain View: the residential-grade Cover Classic (typically 60mm thickness, 4×8 or 6×6 nominal sizes), the Cover Pro series (80mm, rated for light vehicle loads), and the Cover Permeable line (wider joint spacing, 8-12mm gap, designed for drainage compliance in newer Castro Street corridor builds). The Classic and Pro series use standard ICPI bedding and base specs; the Permeable line requires a different aggregate sub-base that most homeowners don’t realize until they lift the first paver.

To identify your part, check the edge restraint for a molded “CVR” stamp or measure a lifted corner paver. Classic runs 2⅜” nominal thickness; Pro runs 3⅛”. If your original install predates 2019, you may have the Cover Legacy line, which used a slightly different chamfer edge that doesn’t lock cleanly with current Cover Classic inventory. We stock both Legacy-compatible and current-spec pavers on our Mountain View truck, plus the bedding sand and joint stabilizer that match Cover’s original gradation. OEM Cover pavers are available through regional distributors with a two-week lead time; we typically quote Belgard Dublin or Techo-Bloc Blu 60 as equivalent aftermarket options that meet the same ASTM C936 spec and carry comparable color warranties.

Signs Your Cover Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Cover Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Pavers rocking or tilting underfoot. This usually means the bedding layer has washed out or the base compacted unevenly. In Mountain View, the clay-heavy soil near the downtown corridor holds water longer than the sandy loam closer to the bay, so we see more base saturation and freeze-thaw heave in those older blocks.
  • White powder blooming on the surface (efflorescence). That’s calcium hydroxide migrating through the paver body as moisture moves upward. It is not structural damage by itself, but it signals water is collecting beneath the bedding layer rather than draining through the joints or sub-base.
  • Joint sand washing out between pavers. Either the original polymeric sand has degraded, or the joint width has opened beyond spec due to paver migration. Once the sand goes, the interlock goes, and the load distribution fails next.
  • Sunken or dipped areas, especially near downspouts or irrigation heads. This is almost always a drainage design issue, not a paver defect. The Cover system is only as good as the slope and substrate prep beneath it. We’ve replaced sections near Castro Street where the original installer skipped the geotextile separation layer to save a few dollars per square foot.
  • Chipped or spalled paver edges. This happens when the edge restraint has loosened, allowing lateral movement, or when the wrong paver thickness was specified for the load. Cover Classic under a daily-driven SUV will chip; that is a spec mismatch, not a material failure.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range in Mountain View
Paver driveway replacement (full remove-and-replace) $7,000 - $18,000
Concrete driveway replacement $4,500 - $12,000
Asphalt driveway paving $3,500 - $9,000
Driveway sealing (maintenance, not structural) $250 - $700
Paver patio installation or replacement $3,500 - $11,000
Partial paver repair (sectional, under 200 sq ft) $1,500 - $4,500

The spread in these numbers comes down to three things: how much of the base needs recompaction or replacement, whether we are matching discontinued Cover colors or switching to current inventory, and access. Tight side yards in the Old Mountain View neighborhood add labor hours for material handling. Our quotes itemize demolition, base prep, bedding layer, pavers, joint sand or stabilizer, and edge restraint separately. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that written price is fixed; no change order is valid until signed. We pull permits when the scope requires it, and every project carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise.

DIY or Call Us?

There is no high-tension danger in paver work the way there is with garage door springs or electrical panels, but there is a point where DIY stops saving money and starts costing it twice. A homeowner can safely check: whether the edge restraint is loose (hand-tightenable), whether joint sand is low (toppable with matching polymeric sand), and whether a single lifted paver reveals a dry, compacted base or mud.

Where DIY goes wrong: regrading a settled area without checking the sub-base drainage slope, using all-purpose sand instead of ASTM C33 bedding sand, or skipping the plate compactor passes that lock the interlock. We’ve been called to Mountain View jobs where the homeowner reset the pavers beautifully, only to have them settle again in six months because the base was still saturated. Measure twice, write it down, then build it that way. If you’re lifting more than a few pavers or the base looks wet, call us at (669) 215-4852 for a free estimate and a photo record of what we find.
