Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard organizes its hardscape line into series families, and the part you need depends on which family is installed. The Cambridge series, with its beveled edge and roughly 2-3/8 inch thickness, was specified heavily in Mountain View builds from 2012 to 2019. The Dublin series runs thinner at 2-1/4 inches with a cobbled surface, and the Lafitt series uses a larger format at 2-3/8 inches with a slate texture. Edge restraints are where most failures happen, and they’re not universal. The PVC snap-edge restraint used for Cambridge won’t seat properly against the thicker Lafitt profile. There’s no high-tension danger here, but there is a knowledge trap. A homeowner can safely pull a loose paver, check the bedding sand depth (should be 1 inch of coarse concrete sand), and verify whether the edge restraint is still pinned. What goes wrong is the base: if the 4-6 inch aggregate base has settled, adding sand on top just creates a thicker flexible layer that fails again in one season. We’ve releveled three Mountain View driveways in the last two years where the owner did exactly this, and each time the fix cost more than doing it once.
