CGI Fence Installation: The Mountain View Owner’s Guide

CGI fence installation in Mountain View typically runs $3,500-$9,000 for a complete residential system, with most projects quoted in writing within 24 hours and crews available to start within the week. We stock CGI-compatible posts, rails, and hardware for the common series, and we carry KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for adjacent projects when a full-yard renovation is in scope. Most Mountain View owners first notice trouble when fence panels start leaning toward the property line or gates no longer latch flush, often after the winter rains saturate the soil around post footings that were set without proper drainage gravel.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI manufactures fence systems across several residential series, and the part you need depends on the rail profile and post dimension stamped on the inside face of your existing components. The Estate series uses 2-inch square aluminum posts with routed holes for hidden fasteners; the Residential series uses 1.5-inch posts with visible bracket hardware. The commercial-grade Fortress line, occasionally retrofitted to Mountain View homes near Castro Street with zero-lot-line setbacks, uses a heavier 2.5-inch post that is not cross-compatible with residential rail lengths.

We check three things before ordering: the post gauge (0.060-inch wall for residential, 0.125-inch for commercial), the rail height (typically 48, 60, or 72 inches), and the powder-coat batch code, which CGI uses to match fade patterns on older installations. Aftermarket equivalents exist for posts and brackets, but we source CGI OEM rails when the color match matters, because third-party powder coats shift differently under Mountain View’s UV exposure. Rowan Construction Group Mountain View is an independent service provider, not affiliated with CGI.

Signs Your CGI Fence Installation Is Failing

Signs Your CGI Fence Installation Is Failing
  • Gate sag or latch misalignment. The gate frame has twisted at a miter joint, usually because the diagonal cross-brace was installed under tension rather than compression. The latch striker no longer meets the receiver, and forcing it bends the aluminum frame further.
  • Rails pulling from posts. Hidden fasteners in routed posts have stripped their grip, often from thermal expansion cycling in south-facing yards where afternoon temperatures swing 40 degrees. The rail separates from the post by a finger-width gap before it falls.
  • Post lean after rain. The concrete footing has rotated in disturbed soil, common in Mountain View’s former orchard land where fill was never properly compacted. The post tilts toward the wet side because the base lacks the 6-inch gravel drainage layer we spec on every replacement.
  • Panel rattle in wind. Pickets have loosened in the rail slots due to missing or degraded nylon grommets. The noise is the symptom; the underlying issue is metal-on-metal wear that will oval the rail slots.
  • Corrosion at post base. Galvanic reaction between the aluminum post and steel hardware in a concrete footing, accelerated by salt air drifting from the Bay. The post wall thins from the inside out, and the first visible sign is white aluminum oxide blooming at the grade line.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Complete CGI fence installation in Mountain View ranges from $3,500 to $9,000, with the spread driven by linear footage, terrain grade, and whether we are pulling failed posts from existing concrete or setting new footings in undisturbed soil. A typical 100-foot residential run with two gates lands near $5,500-$6,800, including posts set 30 inches deep in 12-inch diameter footings with drainage gravel, CGI OEM rails and pickets, hardware, and labor.

Every quote is a flat written price with line-item scope before work starts, under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers installation defects; manufacturer defects run through CGI’s warranty. We pull permits when the height exceeds 6 feet or the property line is involved, and we schedule inspection before the crew leaves. No change proceeds without a signed change order, which is how we’ve kept projects within a few percent of the agreed price since 2007.

An owner can safely check the post gauge and rail height with a tape measure and flashlight, and you can verify the powder-coat batch code on CGI’s website to confirm your series. What goes wrong in DIY is the footing: a post set in concrete without the drainage layer will fail again in two to three Mountain View winters, and a post set too shallow will lever out under gate load. We use a gas-powered auger for consistent depth and a laser level for plumb, because a quarter-inch out at grade becomes two inches out at six feet.

If your fence borders a sidewalk or utility easement, the city may require a permit and inspection that DIY does not automatically trigger.
