Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas produces three bathroom lines you’re likely to find in Mountain View: the Builder Series (2012-2019), the Designer Collection (2016-present), and the limited-run Premiere line sold through regional distributors in 2018-2020. The Builder Series used a 2.5-inch center-set cartridge that Atlas discontinued in 2020; we stock brass-bodied aftermarket equivalents that fit without replumbing. The Designer Collection runs a standard 4-inch widespread pattern, but the escutcheon depth is 3/16-inch deeper than Kohler or Delta - a mismatch that leaks if you force a generic replacement.

To identify your part, check the underside of the faucet spout or inside the cabinet door for a stamped model prefix: “ATB-” for Builder, “ATD-” for Designer, “ATP-” for Premiere. If the label’s worn off, measure the cartridge stem diameter with calipers - not a ruler, which gives you the wrong number. We carry OEM Atlas cartridges for the Designer line and spec-grade aftermarket for Builder and Premiere, which Atlas no longer supports directly. Signs Your Atlas Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

• Temperature drift in the shower. The pressure-balancing cartridge loses its wax motor response after 6-8 years in Mountain View’s mineral-heavy water, sending a blast of scalding or cold water when a toilet flushes. We see this most often in homes near Rengstorff Avenue where the municipal supply runs harder than the downtown grid.
• Chronic drip from the spout base. The O-ring seal beneath the cartridge hardens and cracks, letting water weep into the cabinet below. By the time you notice the drip, the particleboard subdeck has often swelled - something we document in the photo record so you see why replacement beats another caulk job.
• Cabinet doors that won’t stay shut. Atlas’s soft-close hinge uses a nylon bushing that fatigues after roughly 15,000 cycles, about seven years for a master bath used twice daily. The hinge looks fine; the internal cam is shot. We stock the exact replacement hinge, not a “universal” that changes the door reveal by an eighth-inch.
• Grout cracking at the shower curb. Atlas’s pre-formed shower pans in the Builder Series flex slightly if the subfloor wasn’t sistered to code at installation, a shortcut we find in about one-third of Mountain View tract homes from the 2014-2017 build wave. The movement works the grout loose, then water gets to the pan liner.
• Fan housing rattle or failure to clear steam. The Builder Series exhaust fan used a 50-CFM motor that’s undersized for California Title 24 requirements and struggles with Mountain View’s morning marine layer humidity. We upgrade to 80-CFM on replacement, which requires verifying your duct run is 4-inch rigid, not the flex duct that collapses in the attic.
